St. John Post Oak
who we are
St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and part of the Central/Southern Illinois Synod of ELCA. We confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we believe in a Triune God. We believe that the Holy Scriptures are the norm for the faith and life of the church, and that Jesus Christ is the Word Incarnate. We confess the Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds. We accept the Augsburg Confession and the writings in the Book of Concord as valid interpretations of the fatih of the church.
We welcome all baptized Christians to the Lord's Table for Holy Communion.
Although this church was called St. John's from the very beginning it is almost as well known as Post Oak Church. The name came from the large grove of Post Oak trees in which the buildings were located. These Oak trees made extremely long lasting posts.*
*From the 125th anniversary book 1989.
